MIFGS emergent gardens competition - 30 March - 3 april
MIFGS 2022 provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the skills of upcoming designers amongst talented professional landscape designers that exhibit there every year. AILDM was proud to partner with MIFGS and the NGIV in this design competition to support the growth of the future generation of Australia’s landscape designers.
The Emergent Gardens were created with a theme and underlying brief to craft a garden that would nurture and
facilitate pollination and pollinators within their space, how that would be translated in a 30sqm area was always going to be fascinating given the myriad of variables that each of the young designers' training had brought out in them and the four unique vistas and backdrops each garden would evolve from.
The Judges were very impressed with the quality of designs produced for their level of experience and the
variety of concepts, layouts and choices made within the parameters of the brief. Each of the gardens’ display of elements supported the themes and design direction taken with some excellent choices of planting palettes and arrangement presented. There were some bold choices taken along with subtle use of restraint hidden amongst the detail of the gardens which highlighted the level of skill exhibited in their work on show.
Competition Winner
Whilst it was difficult to split the best entries overall, the judges felt that the designer whose garden best met the
competition theme and design brief in a stunning and sophisticated manner was:
CHIN LIEW
Congratulations Chin for your Garden entitled “Moving Forces”!
We are very thankful to three of our local AILDM members who mentored the designers throughout their journey in creating these wonderful gardens from design through to construction:
Meg Geary
Stephen Read
Allison Watson
Their wisdom, keen design eye and guidance truly helped our up & coming designers harness their talents and refine
their thinking to create such inspiring gardens.
We would also like to sincerely thank the designers for entering the competition and for putting in 8 long days and nights
of hard work here at the Showgrounds along with all the prior design work, coordination and collaboration of all those
who assisted them, including the fantastic assistance of the installers from AK Landscapes, and the many landscape
suppliers who provided their plants and materials for display throughout.
