AILDM QLD Seminar - landscape project reviews
We have a lot of experience amongst our AILDM QLD group of designers that is very specific to our unique profession. Sometimes it is difficult for outsiders to provide the knowledge we need to face the issues we encounter.
In this seminar we will share and benefit from each other’s unique knowledge of our industry to be better equipped with the knowledge of how to handle situations, protect our collective interests and meet the challenges we face on a daily basis.
Seminar Format:
- each participant will share a project scenario where they encountered a problem that arose on a project they were involved in or made a mistake to discuss and analyse in the group. The problem could be a technical matter, it could be a design error, it could be a supply or installation issue, it could be a breakdown in the process, it could be a HR or communication issue. Whatever the issue, it should be something that the majority of the group can relate to and benefit from discussing.
- once the designer has given a brief overview of the problem, the moderator will then invite one or two other designers in the room to briefly contribute their ideas as to how they might have handled the situation differently or solved that problem
- the designer will then conclude their scenario by relating how they actually ended up solving the problem or worked through the issues and what they learned from the experience.
- the process is repeated around the audience until everyone has contributed one scenario and has contributed a solution to another persons’ scenario
Rules for the seminar:
- entry is voluntary
- no names of contractors/suppliers/consultants or any outside party are to be divulged at any time to prevent any unwanted legal ramifications – it is purely for the learning experience and professional development of our members to run such a seminar by learning from their collective experiences
- leave our ego’s at the door – this event is about learning and growing collectively from others experiences, not criticising others mistakes/problems or “knowing everything”…
- given the nature of the evening, we must show respect to each other afterwards by agreeing not to share potentially negative viewpoints about fellow members to others (whether other participants or anyone outside the seminar).
- each participant must submit a short paragraph in writing, prior to the workshop, of their mistake or problem that they experienced for discussion.
- No topic – no entry!
